Following an icy start to the third season, 9-1-1: Lone Star is heating things up. The 126 will continue to put out fires, as FOX has renewed the first responder drama for a season 4! Parent series, 9-1-1, has yet to be renewed for a sixth season along with medical drama, The Resident.
In 2020, FOX also premiered a Texas-based spin-off of the series called 9-1-1: Lone Star, which stars Rob Lowe. The series also stars Gina Torres as Capt. Tommy Vega, Ronen Rubinstein as T.K. Strand, Sierra McClain as Grace Ryder, and others. 9-1-1: Lone Star was renewed for its fourth season ahead of the renewal for its parent series. Lone Star is also created by Murphy, Falchuk and Minear. Minear co-showruns the series with Rashad Raisani. Executive producers on the series include Buecker, Woodall, Gray, Bassett and Lowe. Both series come from 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision.
Nearly 20 years ago, Owen Strand was the lone survivor of his Manhattan firehouse on 9/11. In the wake of the attack, Owen had the unenviable task of rebuilding his station. After a similar tragedy happens to a firehouse in Austin, Owen, along with his troubled firefighter son, T.K., takes his progressive philosophies of life and firefighting down to Texas, where he helps them start anew. On the surface, Owen is all about big-city style and swagger, but underneath he struggles with a secret he hides from the world - one that could very well end his life.
Relocating from New York to Austin, Texas, Lone Star is Strand's journey of rebuilding his life, starting a new firefighting unit, and striving to become a more caring father to his son who is also a firefighter but struggles with an opioid addiction. The balance of professional service and family commitments is what makes 9-1-1: Lone Star a perfect companion watch to Station 19.
However, in order for the show to be ready by late September, production will have to start in summer 2020. Shooting on the current season, for example, began in mid-July 2019 in Los Angeles, California.
9-1-1: Lone Star follows a Manhattan firefighter who relocates to Austin to help rebuild a fractured firehouse; as the only survivor of his own station on September 11, he's familiar with the rebuilding process. In April, Rubinstein shared in a Variety interview that he identifies as bisexual. He credited 9-1-1: Lone Star and Silva, who was one of the first people he spoke to, for helping him reach a point where he felt open and comfortable to speak his truth.
